Kristiansand is our Port of Call today

King Cristian IV of Denmark founded the town of Christianssand on the "sand" on the opposite bank of the Torridalselva river in July of 1641. The name Kristiansand evolved in a rather peculiar way. In 1877 a map maker, by the name of Pontoppidan, misspelled Christianssand using only one 's'; and in the next few years wanting the name to be more Norwegian, the 'C' was replaced with a K. Now you have it, and it is Kristiansand.

And look at the Puppy Dog that our room Steward left for us this morning.

Norway's Flag displays its National Independence. Norway became a Nation in June of 1905, when it separated from Sweden. Both countries were settlements of Denmark dating back to the 1500's. The Scandinavian Peninsula (Sweden-Norway) received its independence from Denmark in 1814.

The Kristiansand Container Moose is on the dock to greet us, as we began our City walking tour.

Isn't the reflection of our Cruise Ship perfect in this expansive glass front of the Fine Arts Center.

The Kilden Performing Arts Centre is a theater and concert hall in the Odderoya. It is now the home of the Agder Theater, the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Sor. Odderøya in Kristiansand was the former naval base - now a recreational area. Marked picturesque paths, old cannon positions, small beaches and long rocky and beautiful views of the ocean and city, even on a cool an overcast day.

Once again, did you notice the wonderful reflection from its glass front of our docked cruise ship?

I liked the architecture of these waterfront apartments.

All these structures are built quite close to the cruise ships docking area. Get ready for an interesting stroll through the Fish Market.

The Fish Lady has the market open for your pleasure, and once inside the first item on display are these Shrimps.

Salmon any one?

Or a nice sea bass.

Now it gets expensive, if your preference might be Lobster.

Saving the absolute best to last, will it be Flounder or Trout?

A Norwegian Fisherman? No, the model is our son-in-law, Kyle, but you must admit he has the Scandinavian look!

They gave us these informational sound devices that give you the details of the points of interest at the various locations. But I'm wearing this one just for color, because with my hearing deficiencies I'm just in for the stroll. Dottie is paying attention, but I'm not sure of James.

Kristiansand Cathedral

The Cathedral is in the center of the city, and it is extremely beautiful. It is very spacious and just has that comfortable feeling of being in the House of God.

The Sorlandets Art Museum is the second largest Art Museum in Norway.

These life size photographs were taken by Mette Tronvell. They were exceptionally impressive. We have all felt that thing that just reaches out and grabs you. The first photograph did that to me. The photograph made them so life like, I wanted to just sit and visit with them over a cup of coffee.

This photograph is by Eva Klasson. Wow what a lovely lady, and her eye expressions is as bright has the colors in her jacket.

The artist is filming various poses on a changing digital displayed background. The session was quite lengthy but very intriguing. I captured several photographs of her in poise and felt these best represented her art. I liked her format of art, and hope you too enjoy.

Look see we found a Kristiansand Manhole. It is still proper to call a sewer cover a Manhole in Norway. :)

I must add something about the Company Hennnig-Olsen Creamery. It is a family owned ice cream factory in Kristiansand, making more than 20 different flavors. Their cream is distributed through out the Scandinavian area. Unfortunately, we were not afforded the time to visit their creamery; but my antenna was in full extension.

Ice Cream, Ice Cream, I scream, you scream we all scream for Ice Cream. Ah, Yes!

And now as we do in New Mexico, when we pass .......................... I'll wave.
